Part 1: THE SCIENCE OF ENERGY (28 minutes)

Features animation by Gerald Potterton, creator of several National Film Board of Canada animated classics, songs by Moxy Früvous and exciting documentary and archival footage, including an interview with Canadian Nobel laureate John Polanyi. It covers the following basic science topics

- the concept of energy and a survey of its various forms

- the scientific history of energy, from Galileo to Einstein

- the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics

- the sun as the ultimate energy source for Earth

- photosynthesis and respiration

Also available in a French version







Part 2: ENERGY CHOICES: A Changing Environment
(20 minutes)

Using the same creative approach, including songs by Moxy Früvous, this video deals with problems of energy and the environment, including the following topics:

- North Americans’ ranking as the largest per capita energy users in the world

- the history of energy technology

- a survey of our major sources of energy and their respective environmental problems, including a detailed explanation of the greenhouse effect

Parts 2 and 3 are also available in a combined French version.







Part 3: ENERGY CHOICES: Some Brighter Ideas
(24 minutes)

Using the same creative approach, including songs by Moxy Früvous, this video deals with solutions to the above problems, including the following topics:

- the more efficient use of our current energy resources, including detailed illustrations of such energy-efficient technologies as compact fluorescent light bulbs, solar designed housing, heat pumps, low-E windows and co-generation

- energy efficient community planning

- renewable sources of electricity which are clean and which can produce hydrogen, the zero emission fuel of the future

Parts 2 and 3 are also available in a combined French version.
